Reimagining Avant-Garde for high-end fashion

High-end fashion/lifestyle title ZOO Magazine targets fashion and everything to do with it, such as culture, celebrities, interior design and architecture. It is also an international platform for the world’s leading photographers. It is here that they reveal their visions of the world’s best fashion. Trend-setting personalities are highlighted by photographers such as: Steven Klein, Bryan Adams, Alexei Hay, David La Chapelle, Terry Richardson and Karl Lagerfeld. Smel provided the art direction and design for the high-end magazine.

Mix of classic and unconventional

Founder and photographer Sandor Lubbe, together with renowned musician/photographer Bryan Adams asked us to provide the art direction and design for the high quality magazine. We have worked on the magazine for six years, which resulted in a look & feel unchanged. The use of classic typefaces in an unconventional layout gives the magazine an eccentric and high-quality feel. In addition to the magazine, we designed the six-monthly special music and cinema edition in the form of a newspaper.
Zoo’s latest formula sees it adopting an approach that is detached from current events. Fashion coverage is inspired and poetic, verging on timeless.
